How
this book came to be...
Peaceful
Earth was compiled in response to my own search
for healing beyond tragedy. I compiled the original version of
Peaceful Earth in response to the tragedy
of September 11th, 2001.
I
was seeking for a way to deal with my own pain and anger so I
sought the words of wisdom from my spiritual mentors. Then I felt
that if their words of wisdom could comfort me and help me get
to that place of "centeredness" than it could also help
countless others.
Practical
Peace
Then
after the first edition came out, I started talking with people
who really enjoyed reading the words of wisdom but felt that a
PRACTICAL aspect was missing. "So the principles are great,
but how do we put them into practice in our daily lives?"
were questions that I heard.
I
turned right back and asked people, "what can we do to stay
in the energy of peace?" Thus I started compiling a TOP 10
List of things each and every one of us can "do" to
be peace. The results are included in the revised edition. The
answers came from people from all walks of life. And they are
simple, practical things that each and every one of us can be
doing to manifest peace.
I
know that even NOW, I refer back to the book to help me stay "centered"
in peace. If I get sapped into the media, or the idea of war,
I pick up the book and start reading the words of wisdom. Then
I am able to come from a place of optimism and peace.
A
Powerful Reference
I
continually hear from people that they use the book as a reference
and pick it up and read parts of it over and over to just stay
in that energy of peace.
The
book is becoming Internationally recognized as well. So far I
have received book orders from India, Africa, Australia, New Zealand
and England.
Applying
the Principles to Relationships
One
of the stories that most people like in the book is the story
about what I learned from St. Francis of Assisi. I was NOT experiencing
peace in a relationship with my mother, and I watched a biography
of St. Francis of Assisi and applied the things I learned from
him with my relationship with my mother. Now, our relationship
has been completely transformed. I guess most people can relate
to this story in some way or another.
What
others have said about Peaceful Earth...
"Here's
the single best resource in book form for anyone seeking perspective
about the War on Terrorism. This reasonably priced anthology shares
a range of wisdom from some of America's leading spiritual teachers.
Commentary by Alan Cohen is his usual gold standard? It's wisdom
that can ease your heart and awaken your spirit. Dan Millman,
another outstanding New Age writer, explains "Let's not give
more power to a small group of zealots; let's not let them live
in our heads rent-free."
Midwest
Book Review, Jan 2002 and Pathways Magazine,
Jan 2002.
"This collection of essays by spiritual leaders was compiled
to offer guidance and hope to those suffering from the September
11th terrorist attacks. The writers address questions such as,
"Why did God let this happen?" "How can I help?"
and "Where do we go from here?" The essays were all
written while the world was still reeling from the images of the
attack, and powerful feelings of shock, grief, and outrage clearly
run through the writers" words. It was oddly calming to know
that even religious and spiritual leaders, who as a group often
seem pillars of strength and stoicism, were also strongly affected.
It makes their responses more believable and therefore more comforting.
The essays are short? They are no more than five or ten minutes
each, yet quite uplifting. Hepner has highlighted quotable phrases
within each piece, so even just glancing through the pages yields
words of wisdom and solace."

"While
most of the spirituality books about September 11 and its aftermath
have catered to the evangelical market, with Charles Stanley,
Max Lucado and other Christians weighing in, some of the most
recognizable names in the New Age movement contribute to Lisa
Hepner's collection, Peaceful Earth: Spiritual Perspectives on
Hope and Healing Beyond Terrorism. Neale Donald Walsch, Marianne
Williamson, Terry Cole-Whittaker and Dan Millman headline the
anthology, with various pieces addressing global unity, peacemaking
and the dangers of religious fanaticism""
Publishers
Weekly, December 2001
"Here is an excellent resource to cultivate a peaceful mind
in these trying times. Peaceful Earth: Spiritual Perspectives
on Hope and Healing Beyond Terrorism is a compilation of wisdom
from some of the world's leading spiritual teachers. Alan Cohen,
Dan Millman, Terry Cole-Whittaker and Marianne Williamson are
but a few of the writers who share with us a spiritual view of
current events. As a chaplain, editor Lisa Hepner is trained to
'see the highest good' even when outside reality appears otherwise.
"As a person interested in spiritual growth, I wanted to
know how our greatest spiritual minds viewed our most recent incident."
What she created was a book that can spread the message of love,
peace and healing to everyone. Alan Cohen's commentary can ease
your heart and awaken your spirit. Neale Donald Walsch encourages
us to provide peace for another if we wish to experience peace.
Dan Millman challenges us by saying 'Once their damage is done,
terrorists can only haunt our lives with our cooperation; let's
not give it to them.'"

"This book is very simple at its core. It is a collection
of pieces of many sorts that have in common the idea that human
beings can live in peace and harmony. It provides resources and
ideas for those who want to know how to seek peace beyond the
"war on terrorism." Much of its spiritual perspective
is Christian Protestantism, but not all. The book seeks to offer
inner peace, perspective and suggestions of ways in which peace
can take hold and grow. It may seem simplistic as you read it.
But think about it. Peace is, after all, a very simple thing.
If enough people want it..."
The
Statesman Journal, April 28, 2002
"A wide ranging and thoughtful exploration of our opportunities
to create a more peaceful world...Lisa Hepner offers here a significant
contribution to global healing."
Science
of Mind Magazine, February 2003
Excerpts
from the book
"Let
us seek not to pinpoint blame, but to pinpoint cause."
Neale Donald Walsch
"If we allow this crisis to transform us personally, then
our country will achieve a badly needed shift in our collective
ground of being: spiritual issues will take primacy over material
things, love will take primacy over money, and hope and faith
will take primacy over cynicism and apathy.""
Marianne Williamson
"Since
September 11th, we have better communication, more prayer, and
more people attending church than ever before. We're starting
to understand who we
are in God and who God is, in us."
Mark Victor Hansen
"The
issue is how we can join together to create a world in which such
pathology will no longer be nurtured."
Jean Houston
"Let"s not give more power to a small group of zealots;
let's not let them live in our heads rent-free."
Dan Millman
"Perhaps
the message is that it is time to trade our old world for
one more connected to our center."
Alan Cohen
"The best way to bring peace in the world is to be peaceful."
Terry Cole-Whittaker
"The tragedy of September 11th was huge. The good that can
and will come from it is equally as huge."
Bob Proctor
"There is no force greater than the power of love."
Mary Manin Morrissey
"I
am confident that the time is ripe for us to begin implementing
