Pace
not Race |

A friend and I visited a meditation retreat last week when he said “If I don’t learn how to meditate I may just burst into flames”. Not only was his comment funny but so true for so many of us. It made me think “What has our adaptation into the information age cost us in regards to our well-being and vitality?” It’s like comparing your life to that of a foreign object hurdling through space towards earth. Literally moving faster than your physical structure can contain and having no recollection or memory of how you can slow down and enjoy the moment. Your thoughts racing a mile a minute constantly looking for improved ways to multi-task and accomplish more in a 24 hour period until you reach system overload. When was the last time you actually read those quotations around your workstation, or spent some quality time with yourself? You may feel like there is not enough time to prioritize and you’ve convinced yourself it is not worth the amount of overflow you’ll end up with if you take a personal day. We all know the story of the tortoise and the hare, and the business world has been no help in enticing you to become the hare. But I believe that the steady pace wins the race. This week set aside some time each day go inward, reflect, and relax. Remember to pace not race. You may be amazed at just how productive you are and how easy life can get when you aren’t hurtling through it at the speed of light.
